Part 18- 907 Lotus Engine Inspection
By Greg Fletcher
Costs For The Last Month: $0
All engine parts are still at the machine shop, so no big news this time.
Overall, the engine really does appear to be in good shape. It’s still
a mystery to me why this car was driven so little- 27,000 is almost like a
new car! I never did get the front crank timing belt pulley off, so it’s
going to the machine shop as is and they can deal with it. Hopefully, reassembly
can begin next month. Elsewhere on my Jensen Healey- I was bemoaning the fact
that the stock brake calipers are a bit less than performance oriented. Happily,
a solution is finally now at hand. After much research, a suitable JHPS Big
Brake upgrade has been created and is on my car now. It’s such a cool
upgrade that JHPS.com will be selling a JH Big Brake Upgrade Kit in the coming
months. A bit of testing is still being performed, and a second kit should
be on another JH by mid-December. No pie-in-the-sky, this kit will bolt on
(no machining necessary), use the stock master, the stock rotor, fit under
the stock wheel and provide 20-25% improvement in brake performance. The caliper
itself, inaugurating the new JHPS “JENSPORT” line of performance
JH products, is state-of-the-art, machined from a solid aluminum alloy billet
and features 4 stainless steel pistons. Brake pad area is almost double in
size! And at a price that won’t break the old wallet.
